Why the choice of cinema?

Today’s communication uses more and more often, if not almost exclusively, images, as told by social media and entertainment contents such as the tv series.
The expedient of the story has not abandoned the written or oral form. More simply it has been enriched, thanks to cinema and the audio-visual, and today, for the times in which we live, it has become hybrid. In fact, disciplines are intertwined, the audio-visual has combined writing, the dynamics of the scenes, the dialogues, photography, art, the willing and studied use of colours and shaped and then the specific story, the content and the message conveyed.

An articulate answer.

The audio-visual is not limited to images and sounds, but involves multiple levels of reading, in this sense, the web series The Shifters must first tell the science, the research, the innovation that hides behind the study, the experiments, the applications in the practical field of the theories sketched out among the university halls. At the same time, the web series explains the ease with which cinema can convey the popular narrative on science and therefore The Shifters, among the others, also enhances university research on cinema. The study of cinema tells the story of the cinema itself, its evolution, its uses and declinations over time, the future prospects. It traces a social cross-section. Today, in particular, to talk about complex things we use images and combine them with other languages in a single product capable of translating them into the audio-visual, maintaining the expressive peculiarities of the other linguistic tools, the writing among all, which with cinema are a whole.

A look inside the cinema.

The goal research that The Shifters realises on the audiovisual is a look inward at the cinema itself. The cinema enters in the first web series inspired to the research, with the aim of satisfying the need of the user of an immersive experience, the reconstruction of the reality in the round, the suspension of the disbelief that generates identification in the events of others. The cinema and the audiovisual have the advantage of inserting in the everyday life a story often as distant as the one of science.

The red thread of the story on scientific research.

The research on cinema is the red thread of the entire series. Especially on the first episode. Unlike other researches, it does not address a specific content, it is not a research linked to climate change or the presence of red coral in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. It does not say anything about wastewater or personal protective equipment. And yet, without mentioning anything specific, it says everything about these researches, because it conveys them and makes them accessible to the audience and spectators and listeners. For this reason, it has an added value that has to do with sharing and disclosure.
